About

Amalia Tagaris is a contemporary artist splitting her studio time between Brookline, MA and Kennebunkport, ME where she specializes in encaustic and mixed media art.  Most of her inspiration comes from the natural world as well as urban landscapes, and fashion.

Trained in professional photography at the New England School of Photography, she began exploring encaustic techniques in 2009, applying layers of molten beeswax infused with pigments onto her photographs to achieve luminous, textural qualities.

Since then, her practice has evolved with her experimental approach often incorporating organic Japanese papers, oil paint, and inks resulting in unique, luminous creations. She has also mastered her own signature monotype process to capture the dynamic essence of coastal environments reflecting a profound connection to the serenity and strength of the sea.

Amalia has exhibited her artworks in numerous local and national galleries since starting her professional practice, including, more recently, a successful solo exhibition in 2024 at the Diana Stelin Gallery in Brookline titled "Seascapes in Encaustic: Expressions of Water and Light".

She remains dedicated to exploring the expansive possibilities within encaustic painting, continually pushing the boundaries of this ancient medium.
